Dimensional Control Systems’ Don Jasurda to Speak on Determinant Assembly at SAE AeroTech Conference

Jasurda will discuss the topic of applying determinant assembly through the use of advanced simulation and dimensional engineering tools.

TROY, Mich., Sept. 12, 2013 – Don Jasurda, vice president of sales at Dimensional Control Systems (DCS), will be presenting on “Dimensional Engineering for Determinant Assembly: Utilizing Dimensional Engineering Tools to Optimize Assembly Processes” at the SAE 2013 AeroTech Congress & Exhibition September 26 at 11:30 a.m. in Montreal, Canada.

The event will be held at the Palais des congress de Montreal from September 24 to 26. In addition to Jasurda’s speaking event, DCS will be exhibiting at booth 704 along with technology partner InspectionXpert presenting the new level of integration between InspectionXpert’s easy-to-use quality document authoring and QDM, DCS’s enterprise quality management system providing a complete solution to author and manage quality documents, such as First Article Inspection Reports, throughout the Product lifecycle management process.

Jasurda’s presentation will focus on the benefits of determinant assembly in modern manufacturing processes. Referencing case studies that validate and prove the cost and time benefits of determinant assembly processes, Jasurda will show how aerospace manufacturers are becoming more efficient and reducing costs.

“It is vital that aerospace manufacturers find new methods of increasing quality in order to stay competitive,” Jasurda said. “Determinant assembly has been found by many major manufacturers to not only decrease assembly and lead times, but also to reduce major costs associated with quality and assembly, such as the reduction or removal of expensive tooling.”

Determinant assembly has become more common due to advancements in engineering tools. However, the proper use and application of those tools is key to successfully reaping the benefits of determinant assembly processes. With well-organized dimensional engineering processes, aerospace manufacturers can use advanced three-dimensional simulation to first test and determine whether determinant assembly is the proper methodology.

“Determinant assembly is not always the answer,” said Luiz Marques, dimensional engineer at Embraer. “Therefore, a clear method of simulating the assembly is important to validating the use of determinant assembly before its application. Otherwise, you are merely using trial and error, which is both expensive and time consuming.”

Make sure to stop in for Jasurda’s presentation or look for it on SAE’s website following the conference. While there, don’t forget to stop by the DCS InspectionXpert booth, 704, to learn more about synergizing your company’s quality processes. Visit www.3dcs.com to find out more.
