Understanding Current and Proposed Conflict Minerals Regulations

Get Compliance Information at IPC’s “Conflict Minerals: Complying with EU and US Laws” Conference

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, August 14, 2013 — In addition to the pressure of U.S. laws and regulations already affecting European companies that use tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold — conflict minerals — the European Union (EU) Commission is expected to propose additional requirements by the end of 2013.  IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries® will host one-day conference,  “Conflict Minerals: Complying with EU and US Laws” on October 23, 2013, in Brussels to help European and U.S. companies plan for compliance with current and future customer and legal requirements.

“Under pressure by U.S. laws, human rights campaigns, and guidance from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), European companies are already being asked, by their customers, to declare the use of conflict minerals. Adding to that pressure are plans by European officials to adopt EU legislation on conflict minerals,” said Fern Abrams, IPC director of government relations and environmental policy.

Expert speakers will provide  conference attendees with a strategic overview of all the complex issues revolving around conflict minerals; insight into how the U.S. legislation affects EU companies; forthcoming EU conflict minerals legislation; and examples of strategies and tools being used by leading companies.

Abrams added, “Executives, legal personnel, purchasing, environmental, corporate social responsibility and compliance managers will get the facts they need to prepare their companies for compliance with conflict minerals legislation by attending the conflict minerals conference.”
