Ten Members Receive MAPPS President's Award for Service

August 02, 2013 -- MAPPS, the national association for private sector geospatial firms, recognized ten individuals for their significant contributions to the association and the geospatial profession at an awards banquet held at association's annual  summer conference in Rockport, Maine.
Richard "Dick" McDonald, CP, PLS (T3 Global Strategies, Inc., Bridgeville, PA), immediate past president, recognized the following Presidential Award recipients:
  • Mike Tully, CP, GISP, (Aerial Services, Inc., Cedar Falls, IA) for service as Program Committee chairman;
  • Pat Olson, CP, PE, PLS, (AeroMetric, Inc., Sheboygan, WI) for work on Federal Aviation Administration LIDAR issues and for his service as MAPPS PAC chairman, USGS liaison, COFPAES delegate, and as a member of National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC);
  • Dale Jobes, (Magnolia River, Huntsville, AL) - for work as the first president on the MAPPS state chapter in Alabama;
  • Dave Holm (Fugro, Rapid City, ND) - for representing MAPPS making a presentation at the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) conference in Deadwood, South Dakota that resulted in AASG endorsing the USGS 3DEP program and supporting the MAPPS effort to secure funding from Congress;
  • Jim Van Rens (RIEGL USA, Orlando, FL) - for work on FAA LIAR issues;
  • Brian Raber, CMS, GISP, GLS -(Merrick & Company, Greenwood Village, CO) for work in development of the Geospatial and Engineering International Conference MAPPS will host in Alexandria, Virginia on November 13-14;
  • Scott Perkins, GISP (AeroMetric, Inc., Overland Park, KS) - for work as chairman of the NOAA liaison and as vice chairman of the Hydrographic Services Review Panel (HSRP);
  • Kurt Allen, PLS (Photo Science, Inc.,  Chesapeake Beach, MD)- for his Digital Coast briefing to Congress, and his service as chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee and MAPPS PAC trustee;
  • Richard Crouse (Richard Crouse & Associates, Inc., Frederick, MD) - for work as chairman of the Aerial Acquisition Committee; and
  • Claire Kiedrowski (Kappa Mapping, Inc., Bangor, ME) - for all her services as a Director and Secretary on the Board, and for work on the MAPPS 2013 Summer Conference in Maine.
"The strength of this organization is the dedication of its members to improving the association and the profession," said McDonald. "These volunteers help drive MAPPS."
 
The MAPPS Presidential awards were created in 1992 to recognize individuals who provide exemplary volunteer  service to MAPPS and the geospatial profession.

Formed in 1982, MAPPS is the only national association exclusively comprised of private firms in the remote sensing, spatial data and geographic information systems field in the United States. The MAPPS membership spans the entire spectrum of the geospatial community, including Member Firms engaged in satellite and airborne remote sensing, surveying, photogrammetry, aerial photography, LIDAR, hydrography, bathymetry, charting, aerial and satellite image processing, GPS, and GIS data collection and conversion services. MAPPS also includes Associate Member Firms, which are companies that provide hardware, software, products and services to the geospatial profession in the United States and other firms from around the world. Independent Consultant Members are sole proprietors engaged in consulting in or to the geospatial profession, or provides a consulting service of interest to the geospatial profession.
 
MAPPS provides its member firms opportunities for networking and developing business-to-business relationships, information sharing, education, public policy advocacy, market growth, and professional development and image enhancement.
