Avnet Electronics Marketing Releases the MicroZed Next-Generation Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC Evaluation Kit

PHOENIX — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 31, 2013Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) today released MicroZed, a $199 evaluation kit based on the Xilinx Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC. Designers interested in basic SoC hardware or software exploration, or just learning about Zynq, can use MicroZed as a low-cost, easy-to-use stand-alone evaluation board. Design teams looking for a fast prototyping solution can combine MicroZed with one of many off-the-shelf carrier cards to prototype their system. Finally, MicroZed can be integrated into an end-user SoC system to be used as an SOM, fully supported by Avnet’s customization services.

Target applications for MicroZed include general Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC evaluation and prototyping, embedded SOM applications, embedded vision, test and measurement, motor control, and software-defined radio.

“With MicroZed, design teams have the option of doing design exploration and prototyping on the exact board that they can use in their product as an SOM, which can offer significant time-to-market and cost advantages,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “At less than half the cost of other available Zynq development kits, MicroZed is the logical choice for the Zynq-based engineering community.”

“With the new MicroZed, Avnet is offering an excellent development platform for engineers who are looking to adopt the Zynq-7000 SoC and accelerate their time to market,” said Barrie Mullins, worldwide director of business development for Xilinx. “It offers users a great way to not only learn the Zynq tool flow, but to leverage their work for faster product development.”
