Sam Pitroda to Discuss India's Technology Revolution

REDLANDS, Calif., June 24, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —  Sam Pitroda, Adviser to Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh for Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation, will highlight India's efforts to solve twenty-first-century challenges with geospatial technology during the opening session of the Esri International User Conference ( Esri UC) in San Diego, California, on July 8, 2013.

Pitroda is an internationally respected development thinker, policy maker, telecom inventor, and entrepreneur who has spent nearly 50 years in information and communications technology (ICT) and related human and national developments. During his tenure as Adviser to Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the mid-1980s, Pitroda led six technology missions covering telecommunications, water, literacy, immunization, dairy production, and oil seeds. He currently serves as the chairman of the Smart Grid Task Force Committee to reform public broadcasting, modernize railways, deliver e-governance, and perform other developmental activities.

"We are honored and humbled to have a revolutionary leader like Mr. Pitroda share his story and vision at the Esri UC," said Esri president Jack Dangermond. "His story of empowering India's vast rural population with better information and access to government services truly demonstrates how geospatial technology can transform our world and make life safer, healthier, and more fulfilling."

The 2013 Esri UC will be held July 8–12 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, and is expected to attract 14,000 attendees. In addition to user presentations, the 2013 Esri UC will feature hundreds of technical sessions and demonstrations from geospatial thought leaders and experts, as well as the 440,000-square-foot GIS Solutions EXPO and Esri Showcase.
