HP Showcases New Large-format Printing Solutions at AIA 2013

New HPDesignjet e Printers’ ergonomic design improves user experience for AEC and design professionals

DENVER, June 20, 2013 — At the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2013 National Convention, HP is demonstrating its portfolio of web-connected large-format printers, including the new, ergonomically designed HP Designjet T1500 ePrinter series.

On display in HP booth 3603, the compact, 36-inch HP Designjet T1500 ePrinter was built to improve the large-format printing user experience based on architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) and design customer feedback. An integrated output stacking tray delivers flat, collated prints, eliminating time spent organizing printouts, while the new industrial design presents a flat-top surface for quick checking of plans. Built for against-the-wall operation, true front-roll loading makes media loading easy, even while seated.

HP engaged users in the development process of the new HP Designjet ePrinter series to ensure new printing solutions met their needs. HP has unveiled a behind-the-scenes video sharing the story of how HP Designjet inventors worked with customers to redesign the large-format printing experience. Through deep immersion and archetype activities, customers built their ideal printer out of everyday materials, such as cardboard, wood and sticky notes, closely resembling the HP Designjet T1500 ePrinter series’ key design features.

HP also announced three new AIA-approved courses, covering the purchase of large-format printing equipment, printing in color and digital wallcovering production. These courses qualify for continuing education (CE) credits and can be attended in-person or via webinar.

“To maintain a competitive edge, AEC and design professionals are continuously seeking new ways to streamline design processes as well as gain more knowledge in their field,” said Todd Hatfield, Americas business manager, HP Designjet. “With the new HP Designjet ePrinters and continuing education courses, HP is providing its customers the printing solutions in addition to the educational tools they need to advance their businesses and careers.”

Improved user experience based on customer-driven innovation

The HP Designjet T1500 ePrinter, as well as the recently announced HP Designjet T920 ePrinter, help busy AEC and design professionals work efficiently in addition to meeting deadlines by printing correctly from the start with true print previews. While both devices reduce time spent loading media with automatic paper roll alignment as well as true front-roll loading, the HP Designjet T1500 ePrinter features two rolls with smart switching capabilities. Additionally, with speeds up to 21 seconds per D-size print, the devices offer the fastest print speeds in the market.(1)

Supporting the highly collaborative design process among AEC and design workgroups, all web-connected HP Designjet ePrinters, together with HP Designjet ePrint & Share, allow users to automatically save copies of projects to the cloud when printing for easier sharing of files.(2)  Ideal for teams on the go, users can also access, view and print large-format documents using an Android or iOS tablet, smartphone, notebook or ePrinter touchscreen.(2)

“Together with HP Designjet ePrint & Share, the HP Designjet T1500 ePrinter allows our entire team to create high-quality work with efficiency in and out of the office.” said Gerardo Salinas, partner, Rojkind Architects. “Without compromising print quality, a fast reaction speed to client demands is essential for a team on a tight schedule. The printer’s ability to collate a variety of prints and process complex files easily allows us to work up to the minute before a presentation; it is truly a new way of working.”

Continuing education for AEC and design professionals

To provide AEC and design professionals with the necessary educational tools to stay competitive in the industry, HP now offers the following CE courses on the possibilities available with today’s large-format printing technology.

  •  “What you need to know before you purchase a wide format printer,” compares printing technologies, methods to print more efficiently and effectively as well as visual results that can be obtained from wide format color printing.
    • “Why Color? Benefits of printing in wide format technical color,” highlights the design process and discusses how color printing can create greater customer impact, enabling clearer communication with reduced errors.
    • “Digital Wall Décor: Benefits and possibilities with custom wallcovering,” covers industry and printing trends, printing technology used to produce digital wallcoverings as well as the variety of media and installations possible.
