Corbley Communications Celebrates 20 Years of Building Geospatial Businesses

CASTLE ROCK,  Colorado, USA, 4 June 2013Corbley  Communications Inc., a provider of business development and strategic communications services to the worldwide geospatial industry, is celebrating 20 years in business this month. For most of the past two decades, Corbley Communications has been located in the Denver, Colorado, area.

In 1993, Corbley Communications opened its doors in Denver as a public relations firm that specialized in helping geospatial organizations to communicate directly with target audiences through feature articles and case studies – now known as content marketing. The firm quickly expanded to provide a variety of services including strategic communications and business development. Corbley’s client base has grown to include high-tech companies in other fields related to the geospatial industry, including aerospace, energy, natural resources, location-based services and defense/intelligence.

“High-tech companies offer complicated solutions to complex problems,” said Kevin Corbley, the firm’s president and founder. “The most effective way to sell high-tech solutions is with success stories that describe how a product or service enabled customers to do their jobs faster, better or cheaper.”

Kevin Corbley graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Earth Science, concentrating in remote sensing. In the late 1980s, he worked as a journalist in Washington, D.C., covering the energy business before joining the Public Affairs Office at EOSAT Company, the commercial operator of the U.S. Landsat program. He left EOSAT in Maryland after four years to start his own communications business in Colorado.

“The geospatial industry was in its infancy at the time as remote sensing, GIS and GPS technologies began to intersect,” said Corbley. “New companies were starting up, but there was no dedicated PR firm to support their sales and marketing efforts, so I decided to fill the niche.”

Over the next several years, Corbley served as a consultant to numerous high-profile geospatial start-ups, including Space Imaging, ORBIMAGE, GeoEye, DigitalGlobe, RADARSAT and others. In addition,Corbley has provided long-term marketing communications support to some of thebiggest players in the industry, such as Intergraph, ERDAS, SPOT Image,Trimble, Fugro EarthData and Leica.

“Our forte is helping businesses grow,” said Corbley.“And we have an amazing track record of success.”

In the past two decades, Corbley Communications has providedits services to commercial businesses, academic institutions, non-profits andgovernment agencies around the world. The firm has served as the North American PR representative for several geospatial companies located in Europe, Asia andAustralia. In addition, Corbley has worked as a prime or subcontractor to U.S. federalagencies including the U.S. Geological Survey, NASA, and National
Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
