TerraGo to Present Insights into Leveraging Social Media to Detect Threats to Oil Production at Esri Petroleum GIS Conference

Presentation to showcase how to identify areas of interest, and continuously monitoring news and social media sites for references to questionable activities

ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) May 07, 2013 -- Professor Craig Knoblock, Ph. D., director of the University of Southern California Information Integration Research Group and co-founder of Geosemble Technologies, which was acquired by TerraGo, will highlight the latest technologies for leveraging social media to identify threats to oil production at the Esri Petroleum GIS Conference, May 7-9 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas.

Knoblock’s presentation, entitled, “Exploiting Social Media to Identify Threats to Oil Production,” will detail how to obtain advanced situational awareness by identifying areas of interest, specifying keywords related to potential threats, and continuously monitoring news and social media sites for references to questionable activities.

In addition, Knoblock will address the techniques for extracting documents from news and social media sites, how to accurately link them to a specific location, and how to alert users when action may be needed to protect lives and critical infrastructure. Knoblock’s presentation is part of a larger session entitled “Health, Safety, and Environment - Responding to Change” from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 in room 320.

“With ongoing terrorist threats around the world, there are significant challenges to oil and gas production, increasing the need to protect the workers and infrastructure involved in these processes,” said TerraGo President and CEO Rick Cobb. “GeoXray is a powerful solution that provides enhanced situational awareness by empowering oil producers to leverage news, blogs and other social media to gain insights into activities taking place in a specific area of interest.”

Esri Petroleum GIS Conference attendees visiting TerraGo booth 407 will be able to experience hands-on demonstrations of GeoXray™, which streamlines the process of discovering, monitoring and analyzing data from a wide variety of sources, including news feeds, blog posts, social media, maps and imagery and more. Results are shown in a geographic interface that can be tied into existing Esri basemaps for display.

TerraGo will also showcase its Location Intelligence Platform, which is an enterprise-level software solution that combines open-source intelligence gathering with geospatial collaboration – enabling organizations to discover location intelligence from any source, integrate geospatial intelligence and deliver situational awareness in online and bandwidth-restricted environments.

The Esri Petroleum GIS Conference brings together more than 1,500 petroleum, gas, and pipeline GIS users. TerraGo is an Esri Gold Partner.
