The American Institute of Architects Celebrates National Architecture Week, April 7–13

Washington, D.C. – April 2, 2012 – National Architecture Week is a public awareness campaign from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) dedicated to increasing attention to the role architects play as a force for positive change in our communities and to elevate the public’s appreciation of design.

Similar to previous years’ observances,  National Architecture Week will be virtual and composed of daily pinboards on the social networking site,  Pinterest, and an  Architecture Is Awesome  contest on Instagram. The intent is to use the two social networking platforms to showcase architects’ good designs and encourage architecture fans to share their thoughts and engage with like-minded professionals during the week.

Each day of National Architecture Week pin boards will be posted on Pinterest showcasing some of AIA National staff’s favorite architects and their works. The pin boards will offer opportunities for users to engage with each other around some of the staff’s favorite picks.

Instagram users will also have an opportunity to win prize gift cards in the Architecture Is Awesome sweepstakes by uploading tagged images of their favorite local architectural sites. Five lucky winners will be selected based on what is considered to be the best images of architecture. Winners will be announced on Monday, April 15th, on Twitter.

Also posted throughout the week will be several thought-provoking videos from architecture thought leaders on how architects’ works have inspired them—all with the goal of helping architecture fans connect and engage with each other.
