Isotrak trailer tracking improves utilisation and saves on fleet size

March 25, 2013 -- The latest version of Isotrak’s vehicle tracking solution enables fleet operators to improve trailer utilisation and cut operational costs / fleet size by as much as 10 percent. The Active Transport Management System (ATMSi) gives round the clock visibility of all the trailers in the fleet, identifying those in use and those underutilised. With the high cost of trailers, whether bought or leased, plus their running costs, ATMSi ensures operators maximise the use of their assets by optimising their fleets and taking unnecessary equipment off the road saving them many thousands of pounds a year.

The system provides 7 to 15 percent efficiency savings by enabling the transport management team to compare actual fleet activity against the transport plan using real-time data, which enables them to identify whether further improvements and savings are possible. Instant access to trailer locations at the click of a button saves a lot of time and effort finding where loads are at any time and reduces administration costs too. With full visibility of the fleet, it is also possible to ensure that adequate trailers are available at the right locations to cover those being serviced or off-road for maintenance.

Lifecycle management of the trailers is much easier as all the equipment details are stored by the system and available at the touch of a button to provide an electronic audit trailer, including those assets used as stand-load trailers on customer premises. With the system, it is also possible to determine whether the fleet has the optimal mix of trailer types to cope efficiently with existing workloads and for business development. Refrigerated trailer operators can also fit rear-door monitors to check temperatures easily and automatically using the tracking system.

OBL European Transport, which provides refrigerated transport throughout Europe, chose the Isotrak system to enhance the productivity of its trailer fleet.

Phil O’Brien of OBL European Transport said: “We are very pleased with the results using Isotrak and we would highly recommend it. The installation and set-up, was quick and easy and it has proved to be an excellent work tool.”

Isotrak’s ATMSi gives commercial vehicle fleet managers the benefit of more accessible management information, simpler and clearer data, and entity-based navigation. The hosted managed service is available for worldwide deployment and allows users to manage their transport operation using a user-friendly web-browser based system that interprets satellite GPS tracking and vehicle telematics data giving them real-time visibility and measurement of whole-fleet (and individual-vehicle) performance. The benefits of the system are measurable in operational savings, customer service improvements and a reduction in carbon emissions.
