Singapore, 29 Jan 2013- A*STAR’s Institute of Microelectronics (IME) and Physical Logic Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Physical Logic AG, have extended their collaboration in micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS) sensor accelerometer research and development. An accelerometer is a miniaturized Micro-Electro-Mechanical System, which can detect and measure acceleration, tilt and vibrations.
Continuing this partnership will allow Physical Logic to leverage IME’s application-specific-integrated circuit (ASIC) design expertise to develop an enhanced MEMS sensor accelerometer with improvement in bandwidth, stability, linearity and resolution, and reduction in power consumption. The accelerometer can be used in medical, transport and consumer electronics applications.
This collaboration builds on the strategic relationship that commenced in 2006, in which Physical Logic was able to tap on IME’s suite of diverse capabilities in the areas of bioelectronics, nanoelectronics, photonics and MEMS to successfully develop sensor systems for various applications. Both parties had successfully developed a uniquely structured MEMS 3-D accelerometer, which could be used in cardiac devices designed for the human heart.
“The continuation of our joint effort is an excellent proof of the added value of our technology and expertise to our industry partner. This collaboration opens the door to expand our silicon MEMS design capabilities to broader fields,” says Prof. Dim-Lee Kwong, Executive Director of IME. “I am pleased that we have deep MEMS capabilities to support Physical Logic to be at the forefront of innovation.”
“IME has continually demonstrated exceptional expertise in support of our business. We are very pleased to continue our collaboration with IME to develop our next-generation of products," commented David Nuttman, Chief Executive Officer of Physical Logic. “This strategic collaboration with IME affirms our commitment to continue to employ leading technologies in our business.” |
