Red routes and car park data now available from MapMechanics

Additional data sets to enhance routing, navigation and analysis

24 January 2013 -- Where can you park in the UK and where must you not park, or in many cases even stop?

These two fundamental requirements often arise in routing, scheduling and navigational applications, and both are tackled with invaluable new data sets from UK-based mapping and logistics specialist MapMechanics. They are now available through www.allmapdata.com, the company s fully transactional web site.

Red Routes for NAVTEQ Streets data is particularly useful for logistics planning. It contains details of the major red route schemes in London and the West Midlands, which between them cover around 950 km (590 miles) of roads.

In both areas, red routes prohibit stopping, loading and picking up and setting down of passengers at designated times of day. Many are indicated by single or double red lines along the edge of the road, though London s red route clearways do not all have red lines.

With the use of a suitable mapping application or geographic information system, the new Red Routes for NAVTEQ data can be displayed visually on digital maps as a thematic layer. It can also be included in queries for use in logistics applications such as routing, scheduling and delivery planning.

NAVTEQ Streets, the underlying map data to which the Red Routes data is applied, is a complete street-level map network covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Car Parks UK data contains more than 14,500 records of publicly accessible car parks across the UK. It is particularly useful in navigation applications because the embedded coordinate information shows the exact location of the car park entrance, not just the centre of the car park.

This means the data can be matched to the street on which the entrance lies invaluable in dense urban environments where one-way streets often restrict access.

The Car Parks UK data includes a range of useful information such as the car park name, its postcode, the total space in it and the price charged for parking in it for one, two, four and eight hours.

It also has information useful to commercial businesses, such as the maximum vehicle height that can be accommodated and the potential for advertising placements. There is also information on the different types of spaces showing, for instance, whether the park caters for coaches or offers disabled access.
