Lockheed Martin awarded the OGC's Distinguished Member Award

Wayland, MA, USA -- 17 January 2013 -- At the January meeting of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC(R)) in Redlands, California, Lockheed Martin, a global security and aerospace company, was awarded the Open Geospatial Consortium’s (OGC) Distinguished Member Award.

The OGC Distinguished Member Award was established by the OGC in 2011 to recognize OGC member organizations that have made substantial, positive and sustained impacts on one or more areas of OGC mission accomplishment through a high level of commitment beyond traditional member engagement.

The award was granted by the OGC Board to Lockheed Martin in recognition of Lockheed Martin’s strategic commitment to advancing the mission objectives of the Open Geospatial Consortium.

Mark Reichardt, OGC President and CEO, commented, “Lockheed Martin has been actively involved in the OGC since 1995, providing strategic, sustained technical leadership in all aspects of the Consortium. Their hosting of OGC’s first major testbed demonstration activity in 2001 led to a revolutionary new way to develop standards, and that event was a watershed for uptake of OGC standards across government. Since then, they have provided requirements in 14 OGC Interoperability Program testbed and pilot initiatives. The quality of the technical personnel provided by LMC has demonstrably made a difference in OGC Technical Committee working groups, as well as in OGC’s Planning Committee and Strategic Member Advisory Committee. All OGC stakeholders owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Lockheed Martin and the Lockheed Martin personnel responsible for these contributions."

Roger Mann, a Lockheed Martin Managing Director within IS&GS-National Global Solutions who serves on OGC’s Planning Committee and Strategic Member Advisory Committee, accepted the award in person and stated, “Lockheed Martin has long viewed OGC’s mission and its member driven focus as essential to delivering effective enterprise solutions that address our world’s most pressing challenges, such as public safety and responding to natural disasters. By deploying OGC standards compliant solutions we enable life saving location based information to be shared. We're honored to receive this prestigious recognition from OGC.”
