Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC recognized for being first to market and opening new opportunities for designers
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 21, 2013 — (PRNewswire) — Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that its Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoC has won the Microprocessor Report Analyst Choice Award for 2012. The Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC combines hardware programmability, software programmability, and I/O programmability. As a result, Zynq-7000 devices offer unmatched levels of systems integration, performance, and flexibility while offering system designers reduced power consumption, lower bill-of-materials and faster time-to-market."We selected Xilinx's Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC as the Best Embedded Processor of 2012 because it is a trendsetter, it opens new opportunities for designers, it will be tough for conventional processor suppliers to compete with, and it is the first such device integrating a high-end CPU core to become available," said Joseph Byrne, senior analyst, The Linley Group, Inc, publisher of Microprocessor Report. "Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs can reduce system cost and power through integration, or enable designers to add features or improve performance of systems using CPU-based ASICs implemented in older process technologies. Exciting new applications such as driver assistance systems are uniquely suited to a device like the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC because they require both control processing and massive parallel signal-processing."
The Zynq-7000 family fuses an ARM® dual-core Cortex™-A9 MPCore™ processor, caches, on-chip memory, standard peripherals, and high-speed memory interfaces with 28nm FPGA fabric via thousands of interconnect wires. These devices offer "system-on-chip" (SoC) functionality through an "all-programmable" approach that gives designers the ability to not only program the ASSP-like processing system via traditional software methods, but to the full programmability, and reprogrammability, of hardware accelerators and full custom processing blocks within the FPGA fabric.
"Microprocessor Report's Analyst Choice Award underscores the innovative aspect of the Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC and reflects the strong business success we've achieved over the past year as the only silicon vendor shipping large quantities of All Programmable SoC devices that combine SoC and FPGA technology," said Lawrence Getman, vice president of processing platforms marketing at Xilinx. "We have received incredibly strong customer demand for Zynq-7000 devices across an ever broadening range of applications."
