Swedish Government and TomTom Cooperate on Map Freshness

~ OpenLR™ location referencing technology enables Swedish transport authorities to share speed limit changes ~

VIENNA — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 24, 2012 — TomTom today announces cooperation with the Swedish Transport Administration to efficiently exchange updates on road attributes to improve the quality of our map database. As part of this cooperation, the Swedish Transport Administration (STA) has joined a growing list of early adopters of TomTom’s OpenLR™ location referencing technology. The royalty-free, open source technology will enable the Swedish Transport Administration (STA) to share speed limit changes with TomTom on a daily basis.

The OpenLR open-source system was originally developed by TomTom to enable many different types of location information to be shared between the different cartographic standards. OpenLR has now been certified by TISA as an industry standard. Following the introduction of the speed limit data exchange with TomTom, the STA plans to share height restrictions, changes to signage and other road safety information.
