October 24, 2012 -- Richmond, VA – Timmons Group recently partnered with Luck Stone to support the XTERRA World Championship kicking off Saturday October 28th, in Maui, Hawaii. Timmons Group created a social media integrated web mapping application for Luck Stone to enrich the event.
The application will be viewable on large-screen monitors throughout the event displaying fans’ tweets and photos in real-time. Fans tweeting from mobile devices will see their position on a full-screen map. As tweets are entered by XTERRA fans, the interactive map will zoom to their location automatically and display tweet messages and photos. Luck Stone’s goal is to encourage fans of the XTERRA to integrate social media-sourced content into the race as it unfolds. The map will feature the bike, swim and running courses. The application will also be available to XTERRA fans world wide by providing them the opportunity to see race updates from attendee tweets.
Spectators are encouraged to use the hashtag #XTERRAMAUI link up on Twitter, share their experience and generate excitement through picture-sharing, geo-tagging and reporting.
According to Luck Stone associates, Trevor Blanning and John Blackmore, who introduced the technology package to XTERRA, the package has had a worldwide reach and has been viewed by fans in more than 35 countries. Friends and fans are now able to experience XTERRA competitions worldwide, and in real-time, through the lens of athletes and spectators alike.
