Social media and cyber security risk visualization enhance Visual Command Center

September 06, 2012 -- Security operations centers across the United States and around the world have been kept busy with natural disasters like Hurricane Isaac, major events such as the Paralympics and Republican National Convention, global aviation incidents in Europe, and acts of terrorism. IDV Solutions’ Visual Command Center has helped them to be more informed about risks, use innovative data sources and visualizations to understand and respond to threats, and provide deep, ongoing value to their entire organization.

IDV Solutions will demonstrate a number of new features of its risk awareness and response software solution, Visual Command Center, at ASIS International 2012, September 10 – 13 at the Philadelphia Convention Center, Philadelphia, Penn.

  • The Twitter connector lets security teams monitor the twitterverse for security-related keywords in categories such as emergency, environment, or violence. Tweets with location data can be plotted
on the interactive map and in the timeline, and Visual Command Center’s business intelligence tools can be used to further analyze and filter them. Social media, and Twitter in particular, is increasingly seen as an early or first indicator that a significant incident has occurred.
  • New integration with PPM2000’s Perspective incident reporting and investigation management software lets security teams visualize Perspective incident data within Visual Command Center, a development that will help analysts, investigators, and security officers spot patterns and assess risks to their facilities and employees.
  •  A new visualization of botnet activity lets IT teams collaborate with their physical security counterparts to identify the origin, timing, and evolution of cyber security threats. The upcoming HTML5 version of Visual Command Center gives security teams the ability to identify risk, interrogate threats, and initiate action anywhere—whether on a tablet, large smartphone, netbook or laptop.

Chief security officers and their teams can see Visual Command Center in action in several locations at ASIS International 2012: IDV Solutions booth #1929, PPM2000 booth #1431, Microsoft Global Security booth #4909, and General Dynamics Information Technology booth #865.
