Baker Selected for North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program Contract

GREENSBORO, N.C. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — August 21, 2012 — Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), announced today that it has been awarded a $2.8 million contract by the North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program (NCEEP). The project includes stream restoration, enhancement and preservation for 10,000 feet of tributaries to Brown Creek, an impaired 303(d) listed stream that flows through the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge.

The project will generate over 9,500 stream mitigation credits for the NCEEP, which offsets unavoidable environment impacts from transportation-infrastructure improvements for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and other economic development.

“Baker has become one of the industry leaders in ecosystem restoration by implementing successful mitigation projects for high profile clients such as the NCEEP. The Brown Creek Tributaries Project shows NCEEP’s trust of our professional capabilities, and gives us another opportunity to reinforce our reputation in the industry,” said Chris Yow, P.E., project manager.

Project tasks include coordination between multiple property owners; environmental, geological, geomorphological assessments and surveys; recording conservation easements; sediment transport; hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; stream and hydraulic design; construction inspection services; and monitoring services.
