New Survey seeks to find out more about the widening divide between PLM technology and its implementation realities within aerospace and defense companies.
Ann Arbor, Michigan, August 8, 2012—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) management consulting and research firm is conducting a survey to better understand the reasons and remedies for the widening divide between PLM technology potential and its implementation realities within aerospace and defense (A&D) companies.
CIMdata’s research in the A&D industry reveals heavy investment in PLM, but with only a few exceptions, uninspiring results. Most A&D companies were early adopters of PLM and the technology necessary for its implementation. On balance this investment has yielded some of the most advanced and productive engineering environments in any industry. However, in most cases beyond engineering, the environment falls far short of the vision—process and information flow is still largely fragmented, and information systems are layered with complexity and redundancy. In fact, there is a widening gap between PLM technology capability and the perceived value of its actual implementation.
In conducting this survey CIMdata is seeking insight from practitioners in A&D companies with experience implementing and using PLM strategies and enabling technologies. According to CIMdata’s A&D Practice Manager, James L. Roche, “CIMdata is interested in deepening its collective understanding of the drivers and preconditions for achieving breakaway value from investment in PLM implementations.”
The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and respondents will be provided with CIMdata’s analysis and insight regarding: the nature of the widening gap between PLM technology capability and the value of actual implementations within A&D companies, the barriers that constrain the rate of value from PLM implementations for most A&D companies, and the drivers and preconditions that will allow some A&D companies to overcome these barriers and achieve breakaway value from PLM implementations. Responses will be held in the strictest confidence and will not be attributed to any person or company.
