July 09, 2012 -- St. Thomas: The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network announced that it has selected BroadMap® LLC to perform data collection, integration, verification, and mapping of U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) broadband serviceability areas in addition to managing technology planning for several related broadband projects. The announcement follows a competitive bid process.
“We have worked with the U.S. Virgin Islands Public Finance Authority and the Virgin Islands Next Generation Network to finalize the project plan for this effort,” said Daniel Perrone, CEO of BroadMap. “We look forward to serving the government and people of the U.S. Virgin Islands with world-class broadband mapping solutions.”
The effort comprises three distinct project components:
1. Technical Planning Assistance to determine whether Smart Grid applications can be implemented in the USVI, given its current broadband capacity and shared anchor tenant network, as well as to support planning of the national public safety initiative to provide high speed LTE wireless broadband support to Police, Fire and EMS personnel at mobile locations.
2. Broadband Serviceability Program to perform the data collection, integration, validation and mapping of broadband service provider data in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Once completed, every business, including those seeking to relocate or expand operations in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and every resident of the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to query and visualize whether their location/address is serviceable for broadband Internet.
3. Street Address Normalization to perform work in conjunction with efforts that are already underway by the office of the Lieutenant Governor for planning of residential address assignment in target areas.
“BroadMap has demonstrated a depth and breadth of expertise in GIS and emerging technologies,” said Larry Kupfer, CEO of Virgin Islands Next Generation Network. “These joint efforts will improve the education, health, safety, and well-being of U.S. Virgin Islanders and help attract new economic opportunity.”
