ComputaMaps Launches DxM Digital Elevation Product Line

Global Catalogue of DxM Products Covering More Than 275 Cities

Sophia-Antipolis, France – June 6, 2012 – ComputaMaps, international producer and distributor of geodata, announced today the availability of its new DxM digital elevation product line. Derived from existing ComputaMaps 3D City Planner and textured building databases, the new DxM product line includes digital terrain models (DTM), digital height models (DHM) and digital surface models (DSM).

“These high-resolution products are sought after to support urban planning and related infrastructure buildout in many cities and regions of the world,” said Justin Hyland, co-founder of ComputaMaps. “The DxM product line is a natural extension of our core competencies in delivering high-quality, high-resolution geodata for wireless planning and textured building models to customers around the world.”

Digital elevation models (DEMs) are derived from stereo satellite imagery, LiDAR and/or topographic contours and spot heights digitized from preexisting cartography. Standard DEMs include:

  • DTM - Bald earth digital terrain model of the ground surface only, with optional transportation features (bridges, overpasses, elevated highways);
  • DHM - Digital height model of ground surface overlaid with all buildings, elevated highways and bridges; and,
  • DSM - Digital surface model of ground surface overlaid with all above-ground features (including man-made features and vegetation).

DEMs serve as the base layer for mapping and geovisualization in a range of applications, from urban planning to environmental monitoring (e.g., flood or forestry assessments) as well as defense and security. The DxM product line is delivered to customers in their required format at resolutions from 1-5 meters.

“The widespread availability of satellite data – a key input for our DxM elevation products – eliminates the logistical concerns related to sourcing aerial data in some parts of the world,” added Hyland. “There are a series of markets that require high-resolution data to run simulations and analyses and we have recent vintage DxM products ready to meet their needs today. We can also employ rapid production processes to make and deliver new projects on demand.”
