Yandex Chooses NAVTEQ Data to Support Online Location Services

Russia's premier internet company to extend its global reach using the NAVTEQ® Map

MOSCOW, Jan. 30, 2012 — (PRNewswire) — NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, has been selected to supply map data to Yandex, Russia's premier internet company.

The current agreement gives Yandex access to NAVTEQ global map data for use on any Yandex domains around the world with highly detailed NAVTEQ® Map data available to Yandex from Europe to Eurasia, North America to Australia and Asia. For example, last September the company launched a web portal in Turkey and in October began offering Turkish map services powered by NAVTEQ data.

"Our association with NAVTEQ, the leading map content provider, will help us take Yandex.Maps to the level of a comprehensive, all-purpose mapping service that can answer questions about countries throughout the world. We already have a happy experience sourcing map content from NAVTEQ. The detailed map of Turkey launched last year was the first map we licensed from NAVTEQ. And it was a tremendous success," said Maria Orlova, head of Yandex.Maps Production and Quality Control Service.

"This is a momentous collaboration with Yandex of which we are very proud: Yandex is fast becoming a global force in internet portal development offering a wide range of personalised search services such as Yandex.News, Yandex.Market, Yandex.Mail and we can provide the right level of market-leading content to further develop location based services outside of Russia," added Claude Martane, VP Sales Emerging Markets NAVTEQ.  "This is also an excellent opportunity for us to further extend our global web portal presence."
