PCI Geomatics to Release 32 bit Version of Flagship Geomatica Software Suite

Automation. Performance. Innovation.

Geomatica 2012 enables geospatial professionals to solve real-world problems faster and more cost-effectively.

RICHMOND HILL, Ontario, Canada—December 21, 2011: PCI Geomatics, a world leading developer of geo-imaging software and systems, today announced that it will be releasing a 32 bit version of Geomatica 2012 in Q1, 2012. Geomatica 2012 is the latest version of the company’s complete and integrated desktop image processing software featuring tools for remote sensing, digital photogrammetry, geospatial analysis, map production, mosaicking and more.

“Some of our customers have not yet completed their migration to 64 bit operating systems, and we feel it is important to ensure 32-bit users can benefit from new capability available in Geomatica 2012,” said Peter Hazlett, Product Manager at PCI. “Geomatica 2012 provides leading edge automation, performance and innovation, leveraging the power of multi-core, multi-processor desktop systems to complete image processing tasks in record time.”

Usability improvements such as on-the-fly image enhancements and drag-and-drop file handling combine with new functionalities such as Optical and Coherent Change Detection to make Geomatica 2012 the most advanced Geomatica software release to date.

“This is an exciting release for PCI Geomatics and its customers,” said Terry Moloney, President and CEO at PCI. “This latest version improves upon our world-leading orthorectification algorithms, adds the features and functions the industry needs, and increases performance across the board”.

Highlights in Geomatica 2012

Change Detection:

  • SAR - Coherent Change Detection – Developed through contracts with the Canadian Government, the PCI CCD functionality is second to none, allowing users to detect and analyse changes extracted from a user-specified test and reference SAR image pair.
  • Automated Change Detection – Change detection algorithms that can be applied to any imagery in your stack to identify not only the change, but the magnitude of the changes.

Data Pre-processing:

  • Manual Mosaicking – Upgrades allow users to manually visualize their mosaic prior to actually running the process.  Masking, color balancing, and cutline editing have been greatly improved
  • Physical Modeling – Orthorectification of ADS40/ADS80 level 1 images now uses a physical sensor model, giving greater accuracy to the results of this process.  Also available in this version is the ability to stitch multiple raster components into a single file for ease of processing.
  • TPS Mosaic Improvement Tool – A new project type in OrthoEngine help users improve mosaics and avoid DEM overlap issues.
  • Automated Processing  - Automated GCP collection uses a using a new methodology for Image to Image matching.

Online Data Provider Support

In addition to online services such as Google and ESRI.  Users will now be able to access Bing imagery as a backdrop in Geomatica Focus, and also as a potential GCP source or elevation dataset in OrthoEngine workflows.

Format/Sensor Support

PCI Geomatics is proud to be consistently first-to-market with new format and sensor support.  In Geomatica 2012, adds support for the following:

New Sensors

  • PALSAR support – The ERSDAC variety of this sensor is now supported for use in the SAR Polarimetry Workstation functions.
  • KompSat – The DIMAP variety of this sensor is now supported.

Image Database

  • PostGreSQL

New Formats

  • ESRI Geodatabase support
  • Pyramid file support for ENVI and Erdas image formats

Data Visualization

  • Geomatica Focus is now Open-MP enabled, which will revolutionize the performance of every day tasks like the loading, paning and zooming of imagery.
  • “On-the-fly” automatic image enhancements. As one roams around large volumes of data, the visual appearance will update to reveal the most information.
  • Enhance all images tool – Geomatica Focus now allows users to enhance multiple images in a single click.
  • Geomatica Focus now includes the ability to visualize ground control points (GCPs) collected in the orthorectification process.
