Houston, TX, USA, Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and Pasadena, CA, USA (December 5, 2011) – Trelligence, Inc., Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), and ONUMA, Inc. announced support for a common BIM Server interface approach and a mutual intent to keep their respective technologies consistent with the common direction. Trelligence is the creator of Trelligence Affinity™, an industry-leading architectural programming, design, and data aggregation tool. IES is well-known for its innovation and expertise in creating early-stage to detailed building performance analysis tools, as well as the supply of related consulting and specialist services. And ONUMA is a software and services firm that believes in open standards and which created the ONUMA System which has been used as the engine to drive the BIMStorm™ collaborations.
Trelligence, IES, and ONUMA are reacting to the widespread ambiguity in the AEC industry about the concept of a “BIM Server” by providing an open definition of the concept. In addition, each of the companies already has working products that embrace key elements of the common BIM Server concept. For example, Trelligence is increasingly being recognized for its ability to provide repository and data translation capability across the entire architectural process, from beginning to end. IES has long provided the ability to handle comprehensive sustainability analyses across the full building lifecycle. And ONUMA has created the ONUMA Open Architecture™ that is built on transparent and open standards. With this current announcement, the companies are affirming their intent to collaborate on the continuing creation of a coherent and open BIM Server concept, including a comprehensive interface description.
“ONUMA’s work with Trelligence and IES is precisely the type of collaboration that we have been encouraging and fostering for many years,” said Kimon Onuma, ONUMA’s President. “We created the ONUMA System as our effort to bring an open, standards-based environment to the AEC industry. And we have used the ONUMA System as the platform for several BIMStorm collaborations over the years. Through our work with IES and Trelligence, we will continue to enhance the concept of an open BIM Server interface and we will use the work of the collaboration as input to the continuing evolution of the ONUMA System.”
“From its inception, Trelligence took a broad view of the architectural process,” said Larry Ciscon, Trelligence President. “And we are now finding that companies want Affinity, not just for its capabilities as a programming and design tool in its own right, but also as a means of translating and maintaining information throughout the lifecycle of the project, from planning down through facilities management. The next step will be an open, well-defined BIM Server interface that provides a truly useful and useable environment that companies can support. Working now with IES and ONUMA, we can better push the industry towards this broader, more standard, BIM Server interface.”
“This collaboration with Trelligence and ONUMA makes perfect sense for IES,” said Don McLean, IES CEO. “We are seeing that many organizations are viewing IES as the ‘Hub” for their work on sustainable design advancements. And with each new release of our products, IES is building on this evolving role that our technology plays in the industry. Adding the common BIM Server interface concept to our vision is a natural for us – it is a perfect complement to our role as a Sustainability Hub for the industry.”
