Per-band compression ratios among key new features
SEATTLE, Wash. — Oct. 17, 2011 — LizardTech®, a provider of software solutions for managing and distributing geospatial content, is releasing version 8.5 of its GeoExpress® software this week at the GEOINT 2011 Symposium in San Antonio, Texas where the company is exhibiting in booth #263.
This upgraded version of GeoExpress, which allows geospatial professionals to compress and manipulate satellite and aerial imagery, offers exciting new features, including per-band compression ratios. This will allow users to choose different compression ratios for different bands in their images. For example, anyone with an eight band image can choose to compress the Red, Green, and Blue bands at 20:1, but compress all the other bands losslessly.
Additionally, users can now choose a subset of bands to encode. Previously, they could encode 1, 3, or all bands to MrSID. Now, they can choose any subset of bands. For instance, they can now choose six bands out of an 8-banded image to compress to MG4.
The licensing functionality has also been improved, enabling administrators to restrict how many floating licenses can be taken off network. This comes as a great benefit for administrators who now can allocate their licenses as needed for both internal and external users.
“Similar to previous product releases, this new update offers what our customers have requested,” said Jon Skiffington, director of product management. “Specifically, the per-band compression ratio feature is exciting and we’ve already been receiving great feedback on this addition.”
A free, 30-day trial of GeoExpress is available here: http://www.lizardtech.com/downloads/
LizardTech will be conducting demonstrations of GeoExpress 8.5 in their booth #263. In addition, the company’s other products will be featured including Express Server® for high-performance delivery and publication and LiDAR Compressor™ for turning giant point cloud datasets into efficient MrSID® files.
