Intermap Announces $338,000 NEXTMap Data Sale to the Bureau of Indian Affairs

NEXTMap USA data to be used in dam failure flood zone modeling for dams located on American Indian reservations

DENVER — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 12, 2011Intermap (TSX: IMP), a leading provider of location-based information (LBI) solutions created from its uniform, high-resolution 3D digital models of the earth’s surface, today announced that it has received a $338,000 contract from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Division of Water and Power (DWP) to provide Digital Terrain Models (DTM) from its NEXTMap USA database. The DTMs will be used to perform flood modeling for more than 140 dams located in areas inhabited by approximately 1.9 million people.

Intermap’s NEXTMap data will be used to derive physical parameters of dams and their corresponding watersheds, simulate flood events and generate flood maps.

“If a dam fails in a heavily populated area, there can be significant human impact,” said Shane Willard, geospatial manager for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. “Using Intermap’s terrain data, we’re able to delineate the inundation zone which results from a potential dam failure, identify structures that may be impacted and plan emergency operations to evacuate residents.”

The BIA is responsible for the administration and management of 55 million surface acres and 57 million acres of subsurface minerals estates held in trust by the United States for American Indian, Indian tribes and Alaska Natives.

“The devastating and widespread flooding across the United States has clearly demonstrated the need for counties, cities and states, to be prepared with a flood mapping application to protect their citizens and property,” said Todd Oseth, president and CEO of Intermap. “Flood mapping is a core market that Intermap is addressing with our NEXTMap database worldwide. We’re pleased to provide our 3D NEXTMap data to assist the BIA in creating highly accurate flood hazard maps that will be used to minimize the impact of a dam failure.”

BIA secured Intermap’s digital terrain information via Carahsoft. Carahsoft serves as master GSA schedule holder for Intermap, making the Company’s LBI solutions readily available to federal, state and local government markets.
