Michael Hoose, a fire captain for the Santa Barbara Fire Department, is on the front line of wild fire response throughout the state of California, the county of Santa Barbara and even their own eighborhoods, as was the case during the late season fires of 2008. With such a large geographic area to cover—with a range of environments and terrains throughout the state—fire fighters have honed their skills and processes for gathering and disseminating time critical information that is used for managing resources and keeping fire fighters safe on the job.
