On behalf of the Pacific GIS and Remote Sensing Council, we cordially invite you to participate at the 2024 Pacific Islands GIS and Remote Sensing Conference held in Suva, Fiji from November 25 to 29, 2024. This year’s conference theme is “Sustainable Management for Coastal Areas Through Remote Sensing and GIS”.
For more than 20 years, the Pacific Islands GIS and Remote Sensing User Conference reputably hosts the largest Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) conference in the Pacific providing a platform for (i) GIS and RS users from nearly all Pacific Island Countries, (ii) satellite data, software, hardware and consulting enterprises and (iii) scientists from universities and research institutions. Last year’s conference delivered 64 presentations and 7 workshops to over 250 attendees from 22 different countries.
The conference allows these audiences to engage and discuss projects, news, and challenges involving spatial data and techniques. In addition, we dedicate a day to provide capacity building and information sharing workshop for all users to take part in. The Pacific GIS and Remote Sensing Council also offers substantial inter-country networking opportunities to promote information exchange through our website (www.pgrsc.org) and Pacific Islands GIS and RS Newsletter as well as a network of PGRSC Focal Points, who link the local GIS and RS user groups in the Pacific Island Countries and the Council.
This conference, nestled in the historic and verdant city of Vienna, serves as a fertile ground for sowing the seeds of change and nurturing the growth of Green Sciences in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030. We have convened a symposium that aims not only to address the pressing environmental challenges of our time but also to foster a green transformation in our way of living. Our focus encompasses a spectrum of critical areas: from the conservation of biodiversity to the innovative reduction of CO2 emissions, from sustainable urban living to the development of renewable energy sources. These pillars of Green Science are essential in steering our planet towards a more sustainable and resilient future. The International Scientific GeoConference SGEM Vienna Green 2024 will be held at one of the most historical palace buildings in Vienna - Schönbrunn Palace.
The event will delve deeper into the significance of GeoIM for transforming infrastructure performance.
