Arc Second Inc. is Acquired by Metris; The Northern Virginia Based Company that Developed Indoor GPS(TM) Technology Will Become Part of a Global Metrology Powerhouse

DULLES, Va.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Jan. 17, 2006— Arc Second, Inc., announced today that is has been acquired by Belgium-based Metris. Arc Second, which traces its beginnings to research begun at Virginia Tech, pioneered development of Indoor GPS technology. The company's products and technologies are currently utilized in the aerospace, automotive, robotics as well as a variety of other industrial markets. High profile customers include Toyota and Boeing.

The Metris group has raised more than $40 million to finance key strategic acquisitions in the metrology sector. "Indoor GPS is one of the most exciting technologies in the metrology market today. Arc Second and its technologies will be a key engine fueling the growth of the Metris group in the future," said Bart Van Coppenolle, President and CEO of Metris.

Edward Barrientos will be relinquishing his role as President and CEO of Arc Second and will join the Metris Board of Directors. "The adoption of Indoor GPS technology by many of the world's most respected manufacturers has continued to gain tremendous momentum," said Barrientos. "This acquisition combines Arc Second's powerful technology with Metris' world-class marketing and distribution."
