SuperGIS Develop Urban Disaster Prevention Spatial System

August 26, 2010 -- SuperGeo Technologies establishes Urban Disaster Prevention Spatial System by SuperGIS Desktop, helping inhabitants understand escape directions and evacuate to reduce the loss when disasters happen. The system can benefit disaster-prevention and improve urban security by integrating with the systems of other cities.

Located in the circum-pacific seismic belt, earthquakes occur very often in Taiwan, which often causes great loss of life and property damage. As earthquakes cannot be predicted and always causes serious damage, the local governments aim to enhance urban disaster prevention by GIS technologies. It makes possible to reduce the death and injuries caused by the unpredictable disaster and provide highly efficient disaster relief mechanism for recovery.

The goal of the system is to review the structure of urban space, formulate the spatial contents and levels of the urban disaster prevention, plan the spatial strategies for refuge and rescue, and further implement the basic constructions of disaster prevention facilities. The disaster prevention evacuation circulation and the entire emergency response system can therefore be set up.

Using SuperGIS Desktop, the powerful desktop GIS software developed by SuperGeo Technologies, the system creates complete spatial data related to the disaster rescue in Taichung, Taiwan. Besides, with SuperGIS Spatial Analyst and SuperGIS Network Analyst extensions, the related staff can further analyze the created spatial data and build the spatial attributes of the disaster prevention passages and refuge sites, such as distance, potential level, area, etc.

Urban Disaster Prevention Spatial System is divided into two major systems: Disaster prevention network and Evacuation circulation, both are according to the locations of existing roads and physical spatial conditions.

When disasters occur, the disaster prevention network can help people rapidly reach the refuge sites and enable the rescue staff to arrive the spot of disasters earlier. The evacuation circulation could be regarded as the reference for the administration of the rescue work, assisting correlative organizations in controlling the rescue mode.
