Only Two Weeks Left to Participate in the Siemens 'The Art of Wind' Art Competition

Cash prizes will be awarded to artists with a Kansas connection and winning artwork will be displayed for a minimum of five years

HUTCHINSON, Kan., Aug. 17 — (PRNewswire) — Siemens Energy, Inc. announces "The Art of Wind" art competition, an all media -- excluding photography -- contest to coincide with the celebration of its first wind turbine nacelle shipment at the company's new wind turbine nacelle assembly facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, in December 2010.

All artists 18 years and older with Kansas connections (i.e., place of birth, location of gallery, location of school/training, property ownership, family roots) are welcome to participate by submitting a conceptual proposal related to "The Art of Wind" to Siemens by August 30, 2010. Proposals will be judged and prizes awarded by September 15, 2010. The grand prize winner will then be funded and commissioned to complete the artwork by November 15, 2010.

All finalists in the "Inside Display" and "Outside Display" categories will receive a $500 prize award. The grand prize winner(s) will receive a $2,500 payment and will be funded up to $10,000 in direct expense reimbursement related to the creation of the artwork.

The selected artwork will be displayed for a minimum of five years either on the grounds or in the lobby entrance for all employees, customers and visitors to enjoy.

To better meet the increasing demand for clean energy in the Americas, Siemens is currently constructing its wind turbine assembly facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, which is scheduled to become operational in December 2010. The 300,000-square-foot wind turbine nacelle facility is expected to employ approximately 400 "green-collar" employees. Siemens also recently expanded its 600,000-square-foot blade manufacturing facilities in Fort Madison, Iowa, which it opened in 2007 and now employs more than 600 people.
