Topcon’s Dave Henderson – GITA 2010 Speaker of the Year

LIVERMORE, Calif. — July 7, 2010 — Dave Henderson with Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) has received the Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) 2010 Speaker of the Year award. Henderson is the 3D mobile mapping national sales manager for TPS.

The award recognized speakers whom participants ranked as the top five percent best presenters based on quality and content of presentation, visual aids and topic relevance at GITA’s recent Geospatial Infrastructure Solutions Conference in Phoenix, Ariz.

Henderson’s presentation focused on Topcon’s IP-S2 solution for 3D mobile mapping. Henderson said his program was developed for anyone wanting to learn more about “collecting accurate data quickly and safely from inside a vehicle for any asset management, engineering or infrastructure application.”

Topcon’s IP-S2 is a 3D mobile mapping solution that uses a plug-and-play combination of sensors, including LiDAR, GNSS tracking and positioning, digital imaging and inertial measurement unit (IMU) technology. The IP-S2 is designed so users can collect precise vehicle position/bearing data and capture spherical imagery of roadway objects such as sidewalks, buildings, tunnels, bridges and overpasses while driving the system-mounted vehicle at normal traffic speeds. The LiDAR point cloud data is overlaid on the photograph providing a 3D ‘field scene’ from which GIS features and attributes can be extracted.

Henderson said, “I am honored and pleased to have received this award from GITA. The conference was a wonderful avenue to introduce exciting new mobile mapping technology to the geospatial infrastructure industry asset management leaders. I look forward to more discussions at future GITA events.”

Henderson will give a similar presentation at the ESRI User Conference in San Diego. His presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 14th at 12 p.m. in the San Diego Convention Center. ESRI UC participants can find out more about Henderson’s presentation and the IP-S2 Mobile Mapping System at Topcon’s exhibit -- Booth # 2115.
