Cadence announces fellowship to provide pro bono translation services to UFCH-United Family Charitable Fund (UFCH)

Inaugural Cadence Cares Fellows are recent graduates of Macquarie and McGill University

BEIJING, Dec. 20, 2016 — (PRNewswire) —

BEIJING, Dec. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Cadence, a global matchmaking platform connecting businesses to interpreters ( www.talkbusinessanywhere.com), today announced a fellowship to provide pro bono translation and interpretation services to the UFCH-United Family Charitable Fund (UFCH) ( www.unitedfoundation.org). UFCH is the official charity partner of United Family Healthcare, a leading provider of private international-standard healthcare in China. This is the first cohort of a fellowship designed to serve a variety of non-profit beneficiaries in Greater China.

"UFCH is thrilled to be the first beneficiary partner of the Cadence Cares Fellowship," said Lily Rogers, foundation's Strategy and Development Manager. "As our foundation brings international best practices in community healthcare to serve vulnerable populations in China, we have an ongoing need for quality translation and interpretation", she continued.

The fellowship was kicked off yesterday as representatives from UFCH and Cadence signed a Memorandum of Understanding and held a fellowship launch ceremony together with the two inaugural fellows: Julia Chen, a recent graduate of Macquarie University, and Jennifer Germann, a recent graduate of McGill University. They were selected based on their commitment to community service and strong track record as professional linguists.

Over the course of the six-month fellowship, the fellows will learn about UFCH's mission and offer document translation services to support the foundation's internal and external communications. They will also provide on-site interpretation for foreign doctors in consultation with Chinese medical care beneficiaries during their rounds on the foundation's Wheels for Life Community Health Bus, a mobile medical health bus that travels in the greater Beijing community to provide health checks and breast cancer screenings to people without access to critical medical care.

"The opportunity to help break the language barrier and deliver world-class health services to residents in non-English speaking communities is very exciting," said Jonathan Rechtman, Head of Partnerships at Cadence. "Cadence's mission is to empower organizations to talk business anywhere; it's a privilege to work with UFCH to talk health anywhere, as well."

The fellows will be provided with a cash stipend by Cadence and receive additional mentoring from the foundation's executives.

Cadence expects to expand the six-month program next year to include up to five fellows serving up to three beneficiaries. "We look forward to future cohorts of Cadence Cares fellows contributing their skills and expertise to support outstanding non-profits in our community," said Rechtman.

"This is a perfect way to leverage our know-how and supplier network in service of the community," said Matt Conger, CEO of Cadence. "We look forward to seeing how the fellows will drive change in their organizations. The extended duration of this program also gives us a chance to push the boundaries a bit and identify and implement best practices," he said. Such innovations are expected to include the use of AI-powered translation management tools.

The fellows begin their work next week, with the first project expected to be helping facilitate a partnership with Blue Sky, a medical foster home for orphans.
