Intergraph® Launches Technical User Forum for Discussion of Popular ISOGEN® Piping Component File Format

New Piping Data Exchange TUF group is open to parties interested in the futuredevelopment and enhancement of the PCF

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 30, 2014 — (PRNewswire) —  Intergraph® Process, Power & Marine, the world's leading provider of enterprise engineering software for the design, construction and operation of plants, ships and offshore facilities, announced today the creation of a Technical User Forum (TUF) group for online peer-to-peer collaboration of the widely used ISOGEN® Piping Component File (PCF) format to further facilitate extension of the format for other industry use cases. The new Intergraph Piping Data Exchange TUF group was announced at the Fiatech 2014 Member Meeting in Philadelphia.

The Piping Data Exchange TUF group has been created to improve and extend the use of this format for piping data exchange between companies collaborating in the design, fabrication and construction of process plants. The new forum is open to all interested parties in the industry, including engineering and construction companies and software vendors. To join the Piping Date Exchange TUF group and network with other users, visit www.intergraph.com/go/tuf.

ISOGEN is the industry's most widely used software for automated piping isometric production. ISOGEN uses the popular PCF format for data exchange. The PCF format has encapsulated a multitude of industry requirements to serve the needs for piping data exchange. In addition to its use with many piping design software applications, SmartPlant® Isometrics and SmartPlant Spoolgen® are innovative products powered by ISOGEN that address the needs of owner operators and companies providing engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction services.

David Myall, managing director of Intergraph's Alias subsidiary, said, "The piping isometric drawing is typically the controlling document for many of the downstream processes – such as pipe fabrication and installation – that are involved in translating a piping design in a 3D model into physical reality.  Intergraph's automated piping isometric software, ISOGEN, is widely used in the industry and as a result, the PCF (the input file for ISOGEN) is available for export from many different systems and is frequently used for the purposes of data exchange.

"We want to support the trend to data-centric work processes by further extending this open Intergraph-created format for everyone to use, for even more purposes. We will continue to enhance the PCF so that usage can be further extended beyond an input format to ISOGEN to now support many other enhanced piping data transfer needs for the industry."

Patrick Holcomb, Intergraph Process, Power & Marine's executive vice president of global business development and marketing and Intergraph's representative on Fiatech's board of advisors, announced the new Piping Data Exchange TUF group during the three-day Fiatech Member Meeting.
