SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Aug 23, 2011 -- Sepialine, a leading provider of document accounting and control software, today announced the immediate availability of Argos 7.2, which includes new secure release capabilities. Secure release alters traditional printing workflow by holding print jobs until users request them at the printer. Companies use secure release to protect sensitive information, and to reduce waste from unclaimed print jobs.

Argos Secure Release runs as embedded software on the front panel of compatible multi-function peripherals (MFPs), where users are required to log in via a numeric "PIN" identification code, or via a proximity "swipe" card. Argos can automatically synchronize users and PIN codes from back-end sources, automating maintenance and keeping I.T. costs low.

Once authenticated, users are presented with a list of print jobs awaiting release. Once a user chooses one or more print jobs for printing, Argos sends the selected jobs to the printer for completion. Users can also delete unwanted print jobs from the MFP front panel. Unreleased print jobs are automatically removed after 24 hours; administrators can change the cleanup interval for longer duration.

Secure release is popular among providers of managed print services (MPS). MPS is a growing movement to outsource and streamline document services. MPS providers often propose solutions like secure release as a cost-reduction measure, alongside other reporting and analysis services found in the Argos document accounting system.

By requiring users to release jobs at the device, Argos Secure Release also eliminates frivolous and unnecessary printing, and lowers costs.

Argos Secure Release builds on the software's established document accounting capabilities, which allow companies to track print and copy usage by user, department, client, location, and more. With Argos, companies can monitor document costs, charge clients for reimbursable expenses, and lower costs. Argos Secure Release is available now for Canon MEAP MFP devices, with support for additional manufacturers such as Xerox and Sharp available later in 2011.
