Bombardier Aerospace Adds Altair's HyperWorks to its Strategic Solutions for Computer Modeling of Airframes

Canadian aircraft manufacturer will use HyperWorks for finite-element analysis

TORONTO, June 7, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of simulation technology and engineering services, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Montreal-based Bombardier Aerospace under which the aircraft manufacturer will expand its use of the HyperWorks suite of computer-aided engineering tools as a strategic solution for computer modeling of airframes and conducting finite-element analysis.

Since 2007, Altair has worked with Bombardier Aerospace to demonstrate time and cost savings gained from using HyperWorks. Now, Bombardier Aerospace has selected HyperWorks as a key option for its stress engineering groups, and as a result of the new agreement, will introduce the benefits of HyperWorks more widely throughout its Engineering teams.

"During the past four years, we have trained many Bombardier Aerospace stress engineers to use our modeling, visualization and optimization technology, and thanks to our pro-active technical support, these engineers now use HyperWorks as their standard analysis platform," said Altair Canada President Jean Pierre Roux. "We are very pleased with this wider expansion of HyperWorks at Bombardier Aerospace. We look forward to increasing our cooperation, and I am confident that both parties will continue to benefit from this relationship."

Bombardier Aerospace will expand the use of HyperMesh and HyperView, two technologies within the HyperWorks suite, for finite-element modeling of aircraft structures, from the component level to the full aircraft. In addition, Bombardier will join many other aerospace manufacturers who use Altair's OptiStruct and HyperStudy to optimize aerospace structural designs for weight reduction, robust design and design efficiency.

"HyperWorks will offer Bombardier Aerospace a new level of productivity and efficiency," said Altair Executive Director of Global Aerospace Bob Yancey. "The unique simulation, optimization and rapid modeling technologies within HyperWorks will aid Bombardier in developing more efficient designs while bringing its products to market more rapidly."

"We consider Altair to be a strategic supplier for design and analysis tools and look forward to further strengthening our business relationship in the future," said Guy Lambert, Director, Experimental, Design, Material and Processes and Standards, Bombardier Aerospace. "Through our new agreement with Altair, we will benefit from the efficiencies that HyperWorks offers in the design and development of our products."

During the June 2011 HyperWorks Technology Conference in Orlando, Fla., Bombardier Aerospace is scheduled to present a paper focusing on its use of HyperWorks for computer modeling of aircraft.
