Laser-Scan scoops second consecutive AGI award

November 27, 2006 -- Laser-Scan has received a prestigious industry award for the second year running. This year it is the AGI Award for Innovation and Best Practice (Private Sector) for the groundbreaking Digital Mapping System (DMapS) project with Land Registry Ireland (LRI).

The AGI (Association of Geographic Information) Award encourages best practice and pioneering technology within the geographic industry.  The essential criteria for success includes evidence of added value, improved levels of service and reduced costs, that the project enables the streamlining and increased efficiency of business processes, and confirmation of the end user's high satisfaction with the advice and support provided.

DMapS is a web-based, digital mapping system for recording and accessing spatial information relating to Land Title in Ireland. The system was designed and implemented by Laser-Scan working with their partners Proteus Solutions Limited (Autodesk partners and builders of the front-end), IME UK Ltd (developers of the web-based viewing system), Version1 Software Ltd (provided Oracle services and acting as independent testers), and Hewlett Packard (providing a seamless upgrade from the existing hardware architecture to the latest HP SAN technology).   The DMapS system is an upgrade to an existing system and is based on Oracle technology, including a 9i database, providing secure and reliable data storage and transaction management.   The AGI commented on their selection:

"The Laser Scan/Land Registry of Ireland project was a clear winner in an impressive list of entries.  The new service provides improved quality to a wide range of clients who will no doubt benefit from efficiency savings.  It provides a proven innovative public service."

This builds on Laser-Scan's industry recognition from last year when they received the AGI Award for Innovation and Best Practice (Central Government) for the Aeronautical Production System (APS), developed in conjunction with No1. AIDU from the UK Royal Air Force.
