SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — December 11, 2019 — Recently, IDC released its Global Server Market Report for the third quarter of 2019. According to IDC, worldwide server vendor revenue declined 6.7% year over year to $22.0 billion and shipments declined 3% year over year to 3.07 million units in this quarter, demonstrating a reduced decrease compared with the previous quarter.

In the global server market, Dell, HPE, and Inspur remained the top three companies in terms of shipments and sales, with shipment shares of 16.4%, 10.9%, and 10.3%, respectively. In shipment shares, Dell and HPE saw year over year decreases of 10.2% and 9.3%, respectively, while Inspur maintained a steady year over year growth of 11.1%.

According to Paul Maguranis, senior research analyst, Infrastructure Platforms and Technologies at IDC, while the server market did indeed decline, next generation workloads and advanced server innovation (e.g., AI, accelerated computing, storage class memory, next generation I/O, etc.) keep demand for enterprise compute at near historic highs. “In fact, 3Q19 represented the second biggest quarter for global server unit shipments in more than 16 years, eclipsed only by 3Q18.” emphasized Paul Maguranis.

The development of next generation workloads such as cloud and AI is rapidly changing the market structure. In enterprises worldwide, investments in new IT infrastructure have outweighed those in traditional IT infrastructure. Previously, Inspur has maintained a high growth rate by providing customized products for hyperscale cloud computing providers, and extensive development in next generation IT infrastructure has driven Inspur’s continuous growth, resulting in its ongoing increase of shares in traditional industries such as finance and telecommunications.
