Award-Winning Gnomon School of Visual Effects Launches New Foundation in Art and Design

Gnomon School's new Foundation in Art and Design offers aspiring artists the opportunity to learn vital art fundamentals in Hollywood, with or without any prior experience or portfolio

LOS ANGELES, Jun. 27, 2018 — (PRNewswire) —

LOS ANGELES, Jun. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gnomon School of Visual Effects is now registering students for its new Foundation in Art & Design with classes starting in the Fall of 2018 at the high-tech campus in Hollywood, California. Open to national students aged 18 years and over, the course covers a wide range of creative mediums, from traditional life drawing to digital painting – and with no application or portfolio requirements, students can simply register per quarter for up to one year of study. The course offers a supportive structure for aspiring artists to get a head start, develop their creative skills, or retrain in art – without the fear of an application interview or portfolio review typically associated with the world-renowned school.

Labeled, "the MIT of visual effects" by Fast Company magazine, Gnomon was founded in 1997 by industry veteran Alex Alvarez, and for the last two decades has educated many of the world's best digital artists with full-time programs and individual courses for professional enrichment. Graduates have gone on to enjoy successful careers at the likes of Industrial Light and Magic on the Star Wars franchise, Blizzard Entertainment on World of Warcraft and Overwatch titles, and on multiple blockbuster features at Walt Disney Animation Studios. The highly competitive school has won numerous 'School of The Year' awards at the CG Student Awards and The Rookies and was awarded a 'School of Excellence' Award at the 9th Annual ACCSC Professional Development Conference.

Students on the Foundation in Art & Design course will have access to the same campus facilities as those studying the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Production (four-year program) and the Certificate in Digital Production Program (two-year program). Each student will also be assigned a personal advisor to help guide them through the development of a polished portfolio and provide advice on the types of careers available. For those students interested in utilizing the Foundation course to build a portfolio to apply to one of Gnomon's competitive full-time programs, many of the classes within the Foundation are directly transferable to Gnomon's BFA and Certificate programs.

Gnomon's Director of Enrollment Management, Brian Bradford, says: "We work with many applicants whose portfolios show potential but are not quite at the caliber we're accepting. In the past, these students have had few options: choose an art school easier to get into, or spend more time developing a portfolio through self-study or community college courses. The Foundation provides a bridge for these students, in which they can develop their skills here at Gnomon, within structured courses that are tailored specifically to preparing them for college-level art education."

Registration is now open for the Foundation in Art & Design and classes will start in the Fall of 2018. The first term begins on Monday, October 8, 2018. Students can opt to begin and study in any of the four terms per year. Visit http://www.gnomon.edu/foundation to learn more. For registration inquiries, email admissions(at)gnomon(dot)edu.
