Proto Labs Named 2014 Top Workplace

MAPLE PLAIN, Minn. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 17, 2014 — Proto Labs, Inc. (NYSE: PRLB) has earned Star Tribune’s Top Workplaces honors for a fourth consecutive year. Since the 2010 inception of Top Workplaces, the leading online and technology-enabled quick-turn manufacturer has been named a Top 100 company in each year it has participated. Proto Labs ranked 15th on the 2014 list in its first year being classified among large companies (more than 500 employees).

“There are a few things that make this year’s Top Workplaces award particularly special,” says Vicki Holt, Proto Labs’ President and CEO. “We continue to populate our company with talented employees, so it’s very rewarding to know that Proto Labs remains a great place to work as we’ve grown in size. We are also one of the youngest companies to place within the Large Employers category, further proof of our ability to handle the rapid change we’ve seen over the past 15 years.”

Star Tribune — a Minneapolis-based newspaper company — uses a national survey firm that researches participating companies through confidential surveys taken by thousands of employees at different companies across Minnesota. The firm looks at individual factors like employee wages and management, but also areas like career potential and a company’s future.

“We’re able to experience innovation both internally through the advancement of new manufacturing processes and externally through products that our customers are developing,” explains Holt. “That creates a place where people are genuinely excited to come into work each day.”

Proto Labs recently added about 80 new employees with the acquisition of additive manufacturing company, FineLine Prototyping, and has moved its North American machining operations into a state-of-art production facility in Plymouth, Minn. as the company steadily expands.
