WorldDesk Announces Support for AutoCad, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio and Skype on Enterprise Platform

MENLO PARK, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 11, 2012WorldDesk, a leading provider of desktop virtualization software, has today announced support for a suite of productivity and business critical applications for their WorldDesk for Enterprise platform. More than 30 apps have been verified, including AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, Visual Studio, Tally, OpenOffice and Skype.

In this latest release of WorldDesk for Enterprise, the Menlo Park and Belfast-based start-up has focused on heavyweight and real-time apps, traditionally a weak point in the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) story.

WorldDesk for Enterprise uses a unique “container” to manage and deliver the desktop centrally but run it entirely on the local machine. This approach takes full advantage of the power in the local machine, but avoids the significant back-end expenditure required in other VDI solutions and capitalises well on existing infrastructure. WorldDesk supports both Windows XP and Windows 7 having launched in both 32-bit and 64-bit earlier this year.

Speaking following today’s announcement, Rao Cherukuri, WorldDesk CEO said: “Today we’re excited to announce the full support of these key productivity applications for our Enterprise customers, and particularly thrilled to include AutoCAD, one of the most requested applications on our WorldDesk for Enterprise platform.”

“Our container approach is completely unique; customers can hardly believe we can deliver their desktops while running a heavyweight app like AutoCAD with ease. Critically, WorldDesk for Enterprise can help avoid expensive upgrades and complex GPU acceleration on the server side.”

Mr Cherukuri concluded: “Customers are deploying our WorldDesk for Enterprise platform on existing hardware, making CAPEX go further and reducing OPEX with better and easier IT management.”
